BID Services

BID Services is a charity, we work in partnership with children, young people and adults and their families and carers. We support people who are deaf, hard of hearing, visually impaired or have a dual sensory loss.

Our specialist service areas include Advocacy, Employment, British Sign Language Interpreting and Training, Rehabilitation and Mobility Training, Specialist Equipment, Residential Care, Social Work, Support for Tinnitus and Housing Related Services. Our sister organisation, the Deaf Cultural Centre is the UK’s first Deaf Cultural Centre supporting a range of community and art activities, as well as providing high quality conference, meeting and serviced office space, through our social enterprise business ‘The Signing Tree’.

Overview

BID Services is a charity. We work in partnership with people with a sensory impairment, as well as those with a physical disability or mental health. Our mission is to provide high quality services and opportunities that make it possible for people to have choice and control over their lives.

We currently employ over 165 highly trained professional staff and 53 dedicated volunteers, who are all committed to delivering individual, tailored services that support and empower people.

BID Services has been around since 1872 so if you are interested in our history, take a look in the where it all began section. Or, if you are interested in understanding what makes us get out of bed in the morning, then take a look at how we are making a difference to the lives of the people we support.

What we do

We provide a range of specialist support services and are continually looking for ways to improve and expand the services we offer to our clients.  We strive to put our service users at the very heart of our work.

Our work is funded through fees from local authority contracts, grants, individual funders, legacies and fundraising activities and we are always looking for new funding streams so we can expand our work. Here are just some of the activities in which we are engaged:

  • We manage a range of sensory support contracts of behalf of local authorities across the UK.
  • We are commissioned by local authorities to provide social work services covering all disciplines across children and adult services.
  • We provide British Sign Language interpreting support services and training.
  • We manage a comprehensive employment service to help deaf and hard of hearing people back into work and training.
  • We offer housing related support to enable people to maintain tenancies.
  • We run youth sports projects to get young people playing sports.
  • We offer opportunities for older deaf people to meet and socialise

BID Services has experience of delivering a variety of complex contracts and services both regionally and nationally, for children, young people and adults. We currently work across a number of key regions in the UK offering support to service users, including Birmingham, Cumbria, Doncaster, County Durham, Kirklees, Milton Keynes, Leeds, Lincolnshire, Sandwell, Solihull, Staffordshire, Walsall and Warwickshire.
