Overview

Karma Nirvana is a UK registered charity that supports victims and survivors of Forced Marriage and Honour Based Abuse.

The project was established by Jasvinder in 1993. A survivor of Forced Marriage and Honour Based Abuse, Jasvinder wanted to create a support network for other women like her. She knew that victims of this abuse may face cultural or language barriers, and so wished to provide them with an accessible, informed and supportive service.

Since establishment, Karma Nirvana has expanded from a local, regional and then national organisation, to a project that now spans the world. Now, Karma Nirvana not only supports female victims, but men and couples who experience Forced Marriage and Honour Based Abuse.

Karma Nirvana seeks to make a positive impact on the lives of individuals, helping them to achieve a sense of peace and, ultimately, enlightenment.

What we do

Karma Nirvana offers three main services to help educate people on forced marriage and honour-based violence. Each service is dedicated to providing increased awareness and training, enabling participants to offer safe and effective resolutions to victims. Our aim is to raise public awareness of these issues. Breaking the silence, we provide education through accredited training such as seminars, conferences and workshops.

We provide a dedicated helpline, not only for victims, but for professionals in need of guidance. All call-handlers have experience in risk assessing cases of Forced Marriage and Honour Based Abuse.

When you call our helpline – 0800 5999 247 – we listen to you without judgement, and in confidence. This means we will not talk to anyone you do not wish us to talk to, such as family, friends or anyone else.

It does not matter if you’re 13 or 30, male or female. Whatever your age, sexuality and circumstances, we will listen and help. We also have survivors on hand should you wish to talk to someone who has first hand experience of Forced Marriage and Honour Based Abuse.
