Coventry Rape and Sexual Abuse Centre (CRASAC)

CRASAC exists to address the trauma and injustice of sexual violence and abuse through the provision of specialist services and to promote the needs and voices of victims and survivors through training and awareness raising.

CRASAC provides a range of free services to women and girls, men and boys 5 years and over who are victims or survivors of sexual violence and abuse either at present or in the past. CRASAC’s principal beneficiaries are victims and survivors of sexual violence and abuse but support is also available to family and supporters of victims/survivors as well as to other professionals where appropriate.

Our aim is to provide support, information and advocacy and to ensure the well-being, health and mental health effects of sexual violence and abuse are addressed in a safe service.

Our main activities are:

• A telephone helpline that provides support, a referral pathway into CRASAC’s services, information and signposting for female and male victims and survivors of sexual violence, their supporters and to other professionals working with and supporting victims and survivors;

• Professional counselling/psychotherapy to male and female survivors aged 5 and above, who have experienced any form of sexual violence or abuse at any time in their lives;

• A crisis support and advocacy service for female and male victims of sexual violence who are at the point of crisis and/or who wish to access the criminal justice system; including specialist children’s advocacy support;

• Specialist community based support providing support within the community to women and girls from black and minor

- CRASAC Mission Statement

What we do

Our primary aim has always been to provide support, information and advocacy to female victims and survivors of sexual violence. Over recent years CRASAC has expanded some of its service provision to support men and boys but the provision of and importance of women only spaces has been maintained. This is because CRASAC recognises that sexual violence is both a cause and consequence of gender inequality within our society and so is a crime that disproportionately affects women and girls.

CRASAC’s services are provided from a feminist and human rights perspective and are designed to ensure the well-being, health and mental health effects of sexual violence and abuse are addressed in a safe service and victims and survivors are enabled to regain critical power and control lost through their experiences of sexual violence and abuse.

We are a member organisation of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and abide by their Ethical Framework. Our counsellors are all women from diverse backgrounds and are qualified to at least Diploma level. Our volunteers have completed an NOCN accredited training programme in the area of rape and sexual abuse which is run by CRASAC.

How to Refer
It is best if the person who is in need of the support refers themselves to the service. If they are not able to do this then professionals and supporters can make the referral, if the client is present. However we would recommend that you:
  • Have spoken to the person about CRASAC and who we are
  • They are aware that you are making the referral and why
  • You have their permission to contact CRASAC and for us to contact them directly

Now please contact us via the Helpline 0247627 7777 or email us on helpline@crasac.org.uk

What Happens Next?
When CRASAC has received the referral we will arrange an assessment in order to determine the next stage of the process. CRASAC will not be able to disclose any further information to a third party without the consent of the client once the referral has been made.

If you have any queries at all regarding referrals please contact us.

- CRASAC Mission Statement

What we do

CRASAC was established in 1980 to offer a telephone counselling service to Coventry women who had been sexually abused. Initially run by volunteers CRASAC achieved funding in 1990 and employed two full-time workers.  Over the years it has grown considerably and now employs a range of paid workers and volunteers.

Our primary aim has always been to provide support, information and advocacy to female victims and survivors of sexual violence. Over recent years CRASAC has expanded some of its service provision to support men and boys but the provision of and importance of women only spaces has been maintained.
