Open Door Counselling

Established in 1967, We are a registered charity, offering free BACP-accredited Person Centred counselling to those aged 12-25 and registered with a Birmingham GP.

Additionally, we offer low-cost counselling to those aged 26 and over, as an alternative to counselling in the private sector. This service is available to anyone, regardless of geographical location, and costs £20 per session.

What we do

We are a registered charity offering Person Centred counselling to those aged 12-25 and registered with a Birmingham GP. In addition, we provide a low-cost to private counselling for anyone aged 26 or above, regardless of where they are resident.

Where we do it

Our main premises is a comfortable and inviting property on Greenfield Crescent in Edgbaston. Additionally, we operate several satellite clinics across Birmingham. These are located in College Road Surgery, Erdington Medical Centre, Richmond Primary Care Centre, Sutton Park Surgery, and The Pump in Kitts Green.

How to access

If you are aged 12-25, you should visit your GP and ask for them to make a referral to Open Door Counselling. When we have received this referral, we will allocate you an appointment, and send a letter in the post informing you of the time and date. This service is free of charge.

Alternatively, referrals can come to us through the Forward Thinking Birmingham Access Centre, which can be contacted by other healthcare professionals.


If you are aged 26 or over, our service is available on a self-referral basis. You can either complete the referral form on our website, or call us up to arrange an appointment.
